Mini-Malls Cause Him Maximum Irritation
Sam Hall Kaplan: Please keep protesting the deterioration of Los Angeles. I am one of thousands who do not belong to protest groups who are, nevertheless, appalled by what is happening to this city.
I live in Studio City, and in the last 10 years what has happened is causing me to move elsewhere in the city. In just the last two years nearly every available corner has been “developed” into a mini-mall with the requisite donut shop and taco parlor. These concrete-block buildings will be slums in three years.
Virtually none has plantings other than a few flowers that die within weeks (forget about trees), and my councilman, Joel Wachs, is blithely unconcerned.
I love Los Angeles. I hate to see it destroyed. I am not against development. There are a few beautiful building going up, but it is obvious that they are built because there is a tiny minority of sensitive developers in this city, not because we have a government that gives a damn.
