Brownsberger Wins at Mission Bay Marathon
Rich Brownsberger, a UCLA runner from El Cajon, won the men’s portion of the Mission Bay Marathon Sunday with a time of 2:14.02.
Brownsberger, 22, won the 22nd annual running by more than four minutes over Allen Just of Buena Park, who finished in 2:18.34.
Marina Boller-Hoyt of Burnsville, Minn., won the women’s division in 3:00.02. She was followed by Connie Robinson of Des Moines, Iowa, who finished in 3:03.37.
San Diego’s Diane Riley-Reutan and Tess Wilcoxson finished fourth and fifth with times of 3:04.32 and 3:08.26, respectively.
In an accompanying 10-kilometer run, Gilberto Alvarez of Tijuana, Mexico, won the men’s division in 30:30. Kathy Kinane of San Diego won the women’s event in 37:00.
The marathon, which was run in fog for the first hour, had 900 runners competing over the flat and fast course. The 10K races drew 1,300 runners.
