Capistrano Beach : Government Choices Topic for Public Meeting

Share

Residents are invited to a public meeting of the Capistrano Beach Formation Committee tonight, where local government options such as incorporation and annexation to a neighboring city will be presented. The committee, jointly sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce and the Capistrano Beach Community Assn., has been studying local government choices for about a year and “is more seriously considering annexation to San Juan Capistrano than any other option,” committee member Fred Jenner said.

“There is a good feeling in each community toward each other, their infrastructure is in place, and we still would be retaining our community identity,” he said.

Incorporation on its own would be economically impossible for Capistrano Beach, Jenner said, but the committee is considering other options, including forming a community services district or joining Dana Point to form a separate city.

“Everything is still very open,” Jenner said. “This is an educational meeting, and no action will be taken.”

The meeting will be held at Palisades Elementary School, 26462 Via Sacramento, at 7:30 p.m.
