Share

A $5,000 reward is being offered by the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals who caused an estimated $20,000 in damage at Fred M. Sparks Junior High School in La Puente.

Herman Zellmer, vice principal at the school, said that vandals broke into the school over the weekend of Jan. 10 and caused extensive damage to walls, cabinets, telephones and 19 computers and other equipment in two classrooms and a computer room.

Sgt. Larry Griffiths of the Sheriff’s Department said that graffiti with gang legends had been found on classroom walls and may provide leads to suspects. The investigation has been turned over to Operation Safe Streets, the anti-gang unit of the Sheriff’s Department. Information on the vandalism should be reported to the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District office at (818) 333-2211.
