NHL Roundup : Flyers’ Skid Ends--Red Wings’ Doesn’t

Tim Kerr scored his league-leading 39th goal and had one assist Thursday night as the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Philadelphia.

The loss was the 10th in the Red Wings’ last 13 games and added to their more than 14 years of frustration on the Flyers’ ice. The Red Wings are 0-22-6 at the Spectrum during that period, last winning on Nov. 13, 1971.

The Flyers’ Brian Propp, who leads the team in scoring with 66 points, collected his 31st goal of the season and his 31st point in his last 19 games.

The victory improved Philadelphia’s record to 34-14-0, while Detroit’s fell to 10-32-5.

Hartford 4, Toronto 1--Center Ray Ferraro assisted on three goals, and Wayne Babych had a goal and two assists as the Whalers upended the Maple Leafs at Hartford, Conn.

The victory was the fourth straight for the Whalers (25-20-1), who are five games over .500 for the first time in club history. The loss was the fourth straight and ninth in the last 11 games for the Maple Leafs (12-29-5).

Montreal 5, Minnesota 2--Mats Naslund snapped a 2-2 tie midway through the second period with his 31st goal of the season, lifting the Canadiens over the North Stars at Bloomington, Minn.

The victory enabled Montreal to stay one point ahead of second-place Quebec in the Adams Division race. Montreal has a 26-17-5 record and 57 points. Minnesota fell to 18-21-8.

Quebec 4, New York Rangers 0--Michel Goulet struck for two goals and two assists to back the shutout goaltending of Clint Malarchuk and carry the Nordiques (27-18-2) to the shutout victory at New York.

Malarchuk collected his third shutout of the year with 32 saves. The Rangers (22-23-3) were blanked for the second time in a week.

Boston 7, Winnipeg 5--Keith Crowder scored two goals on Boston power plays as the Bruins hung on for the win over the Jets at Boston.

The Bruins held three-goal leads three times--at 4-1, 5-2 and 6-3--before securing their third victory over Winnipeg since Jan. 11.
