Women’s College Basketball : Long Beach Stays Unbeaten in PCAA by Routing Overmatched UCI, 95-55

The Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team remained unbeaten in Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play Thursday night by routing UC Irvine, 95-55, at Long Beach.

The 49ers improved their conference record to 3-0 and overall record to 13-2. Irvine is 1-2 and 9-7.

Cindy Brown scored 18 points to lead Long Beach. Natalie Crawford and Valerie Dehn each scored 15 to lead the Anteaters.

In other PCAA action:

Cal State Fullerton 67, UC Santa Barbara 41--Robin Holmes scored 19 points to lead the Titans to an easy win at Fullerton. Fullerton is 4-1 in conference and 6-10 overall. The Gauchos are 0-4 and 5-12.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. action:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 63, Chapman 59--The Mustangs scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 32-24 lead and never trailed after that in defeating the Panthers at San Luis Obispo. San Luis Obispo is 4-1 in conference and 12-5 overall. Chapman is 3-2 and 12-6.

Chapman’s Leone Patterson set a CCAA record for most career conference points in the defeat. Patterson’s 26 points gave here 649 CCAA points in her career, breaking the old mark of 628 set by Jann Martin of Cal State Los Angeles from 1982-84.

In NAIA District 3 action:

Azusa-Pacific 82, Southern California College 60--Denis Duncan scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds and 9 assists as Azusa-Pacific (5-1, 16-4) defeated the Vanguards (1-4, 10-8) at Costa Mesa.
