UC Irvine Advances in Tennis Tournament

UC Irvine’s Lola and Dina Trenwith each won second-round qualifying matches Tuesday to advance to today’s third and fourth qualifying rounds for the Women’s Intercollegiate Invitational Tennis Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades.

Lola Trenwith received a first-round bye and defeated UCLA’s Jessica Algazi, 6-3, 6-2, in the second round. Dina Trenwith defeated Cal State Long Beach’s Leslie Bannister, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round and then beat Cal Poly Pomona’s Chris Ryan, 6-2, 6-4, in the second.

The Anteaters’ doubles team of Colleen Patton and Lola Trenwith also won two matches to advance to today’s third and fourth rounds. UCI singles players Uma Rao, Haruko Shigekawa and Kathy Rose each won first-round matches but were eliminated in the second round.

The main draw of the tournament begins Thursday and runs until Sunday.
