A 53-year-old San Fernando woman was killed Tuesday in Sylmar when her car was struck by another car that ran a red light while speeding away from a hit-and-run accident, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

The driver of the second car, Artemio Arroyo, 19, of South Gate, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, Officer Larry Rumple said.

The victim, Socorro Grajeda, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where she died from multiple head injuries, Rumple said. Arroyo and four passengers in his car suffered minor cuts and scrapes, he said.

Rumple said Arroyo first hit another near Lazard Street and Foothill Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m., then sped away. Near Dronfield Avenue and Hubbard Street, less than a mile away, he ran the red light and crashed into the Datsun driven by Grajeda, the officer said.

Arroyo was taken to the Van Nuys police station.
