Kansas State Coach Jack Hartman announced that he is stepping down after 16 years as head of the Wildcats’ basketball program. Hartman said his resignation is effective at the end of the school year.

“I’m a guy who’s 60 years old and has been coaching for about 50 of them . . . do you have to have a reason?” he said. “I think I’m satisfied I’ve had enough.”

Hartman has a 292-162 record at Kansas State. He has led the Wildcats to three regular-season Big Eight championships and two postseason tournament titles. They have had seven 20-win seasons under Hartman.
