Share

Original editions of the North Star, the newspaper written by black abolitionist Frederick Douglass in 1851, will be on public display Wednesday through Feb. 28 in the Cal State Fullerton library.

The historical display is part of the university’s observance of Black History Month.

Other anti-slavery newspapers of the era will be exhibited, including The Emancipator, first published in 1839. The exhibit also will feature a variety of rare books and journals published by the Assn. for the Study of Afro-American Life and History, founded in 1914.

Works published by the association that will be on display include writings of early black church leaders, studies of the Reconstruction period in the South, books of plays and children’s books about black history.
