An attempted bank robbery was foiled Monday when two men pursued and caught the suspected bandit, a San Diego police spokesman said.

Hugh Albertson, 27, a transient, was taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center and held for questioning.

Police spokesman Bill Robinson said Albertson handed a note demanding money to a teller at the Security Pacific Bank branch at 4144 El Cajon Blvd. The teller reportedly gave him a handful of bills but as Albertson was leaving alerted others in the bank.

Two customers, Walter Goodrich and Gholam Toustchi, both of San Diego, pursued Albertson as he left the bank and caught him nearby.

Robinson said the two will receive letters of commendation from Police Chief Bill Kolender.
