Mayor Tom Bradley expressed his support for a popular Griffith Park pony ride facing closure because of skyrocketing insurance premiums. Bradley asked the city’s Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners to place the privately owned 40-year-old ride under the city’s liability insurance to prevent it from being closed down next week for lack of liability coverage. “The problems of obtaining affordable liability coverage for local governments and municipal services has reached a critical stage for many cities, but never did I think that the children of Los Angeles and surrounding areas would have to bear the ultimate sacrifice of losing the park pony rides forever because an insurance carrier can’t be found to offer an adequate policy,” Bradley said. The park commissioners are scheduled to decide on the fate of the pony ride at a meeting today.
