A threatening letter purportedly from the group claiming responsibility for earlier attacks against Ventura County narcotics officers has been received by the Los Angeles Police Department, Ventura County authorities said. Similar letters, signed by a group calling itself People’s Liberation Army, preceded two pipe bomb incidents and the mailing of poison-laced candy to a Ventura County officer, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. The only victim has been the stepson of an Oxnard detective who received minor injuries when a pipe bomb went off in his home. Cmdr. William Booth, Los Angeles police spokesman, said it is the department’s policy not to discuss threatening letters and would neither confirm nor deny the report.
