Pacific 54, Cal State Long Beach 50--The 49ers tied an NCAA record with no free-throw attempts while going down to defeat at Stockton.

The record is shared by several teams. UOP made 14 of 26 attempts from the free-throw line.

The Tigers were whistled for 12 fouls in the game, while Long Beach was hit with 20. UOP was not called for a foul in the last 11:15.

James Gleaves broke a 48-48 tie for the Tigers (12-12, 5-8) by converting a three-point play with 1:36 left.

Rich Anema scored 12 points for the Tigers; Brent Counts added 11, and Gleaves scored 10. Morlon Wiley scored 14 points, and DeAnthony Langston added 12 for the 49ers (6-18, 2-11).

Fresno State 56, New Mexico State 51--Marvin Carter scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half as the Bulldogs rallied to overcome the Aggies at Fresno.

Carter made 3 of 4 three-point attempts.

The Bulldogs (14-11, 7-7) trailed, 34-28, with 12 minutes remaining, but Carter and Jos Kuipers hit three-point shots to start a 10-point surge that put Fresno ahead for good. Freshman Mike Mitchell wrapped up the surge with a reverse dunk on a lob from Kuipers and a 15-foot jumper.

The Bulldogs put the game away by making 10 straight free throws in the final minutes.

The Aggies (15-7, 9-4) built a 21-16 halftime lead by limiting Fresno State to 36.8% shooting. The Bulldogs made one field goal in the first nine minutes.

Fresno native Kenny Travis scored 17 points for the Aggies, and Gilbert Wilburn added 11 points.

UC Santa Barbara 66, San Jose State 63--Khris Fortson and Scott Fisher scored 16 points apiece, and Bruce Hannan made a key steal and two free throws in the closing 10 seconds as the Gauchos knocked off the Spartans at Santa Barbara.

The Gauchos (10-12, 5-8) held a 64-63 lead with 33 seconds left, when Ward Farris stole a pass for San Jose (14-9, 7-7). However, Hannan stole the ball back and was fouled. He made two free throws with eight seconds remaining.
