Garden Grove League : Bolsa Grande Clinches Second, Knocks Out Garden Grove, 83-56

Forward Tom Afdahl was 10 of 10 from the floor and scored 25 points to lead Bolsa Grande to an 83-56 Garden Grove League win over Garden Grove Friday night at Bolsa Grande.

The win earned the Matadors (7-3, 14-8) second place and a spot in next week’s playoffs. It also was the 100th victory for Coach Tony Lipold in his eight years at the school. The Argonauts (5-5, 14-10) dropped into fourth place and out of the playoffs.

La Quinta 59, Los Amigos 55--The Aztecs moved into third place with the victory. Eric Ramsey, a 5-foot 7-inch guard, led La Quinta’s balanced attack with 14 points. Mike Whitcomb, Brian Joe and Kenny Bennett scored 10 points each for the Aztecs (6-4, 9-10). Los Amigos was led by Geno Howard and Gene Altamirano who both had 15 points. Rancho Alamitos 53, Santiago 50--The Cavaliers slowed the tempo but couldn’t upset the league-champion Vaqueros. Rancho Alamitos (9-1, 15-8) went up by four points, 50-46, with three minutes to play and went into a delay game, forcing Santiago (0-10, 3-18) to foul.
