Whiteley Is Fifth in Cross-Country Run

Greg Whiteley of Irvine was fifth Saturday in the 8-kilometer run at the U.S. Junior National team cross-country championships at Waco, Tex.
Whiteley, who won the 3,200 meters in last spring’s Orange County track and field championships while he was a senior at University High School, finished in 24 minutes, 42 seconds. He will be a member of the U.S. team that travels to Switzerland in March for the world cross-country championships.
