One person was critically injured and two others suffered serious injury when their car turned in front of an oncoming van and was struck early Monday, police said.
The driver of the van, who police said was not at fault in the accident, fled the scene on foot and was later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and drunk driving, both felonies, according to police accident investigator Greg Mattis.
Police said the driver of the car, identified as Bruce R. Boyajian, 31, of Brigantine, N.J., made an illegal left turn intending to enter the parking lot of the Emerald Hotel on West Street. He and one of his passengers, Cindy Green, 27, of Little Rock, Ark., were taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where Boyajian was in good condition, Green in fair condition.
The second passenger, Laura Hervey, 23, of New Hope, Pa., was taken to UCI Medical Center, where she was in critical condition.
Police identified the driver of the van as John Cordon, 22, of Anaheim.
