Torrance : Condo Zoning Approved
The City Council voted 5 to 2 for a zone change to allow construction of a 50-unit condominium on a 1.3-acre lot in north Torrance.
Councilman Bill Applegate and Councilwoman Katy Geissert opposed the zone change, citing the increased density the project would create.
The Planning Commission and the Planning Department had recommended approval of the project on Yukon Avenue near Artesia Boulevard, saying the increased density was a “logical extension of the land use pattern of the immediate area.”
There is a commercial retail center north of the project, single-family residences to the east and apartments to the south and west.
Under the former zoning, only 36 units would have been allowed.
