The Glendale Redevelopment Agency last week voted to spend $100,000 to promote the city during the LPGA tournament to be held March 12-16 at Oakmont Country Club.

The appropriation, approved 4 to 0, is part of a campaign designed to persuade businesses to relocate in Glendale’s expanding high-rise office district.

The plan calls for the city to buy $55,000 worth of commercial air time on television stations carrying the Ladies Professional Golf Assn.’s tournament, which is being held at Oakmont, 3100 Country Club Drive, for the second consecutive year.

“The film footage will make use of business executives and managers explaining why this is a great place to live and work,” said Jill Dominique, a representative with Burson-Marsteller, the Los Angeles-based public relations firm that has been hired to promote the city.

Officials said there is a chance that the tournament might not be aired. In that case, they said, the $55,000 would not be spent.

Of the $100,000 allocation, $12,000 will be spent for entertaining executives who will be given tickets to the tournament. The rest of the money will pay for other publicity and city staff time.

The $100,000 is in addition to $300,000 in city funds allocated for a promotional program in conjunction with a private group of business leaders called the Glendale Development Council.
