NBA Roundup : Bird Does It All as Celtics Defeat the Pacers, 113-98

Larry Bird collected 30 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds to spark the Boston Celtics to a 113-98 victory over the Indiana Pacers Sunday night at Hartford, Conn.

The Celtics, who have won 22 of their last 26 games, broke from a 78-78 tie after three periods by outscoring the Pacers, 35-20, in the fourth quarter, making 17 of 25 shots.

Bird scored eight points during a 14-4 run midway in the quarter to expand Boston’s lead to 104-90.

Robert Parish added 27 points and Scott Wedman had 19 for the Celtics. Dennis Johnson scored 12, including a three-point shot at the buzzer to draw Boston even after three quarters.

Herb Williams scored 24 points for the Pacers, while Steve Stipanovich and Bryan Warrick added 16 points each.

Sacramento 127, Golden State 124--Eddie Johnson scored 23 points and Terry Tyler hit two free throws with 10 seconds left to lift the Kings past the Warriors at Sacramento.

Tyler’s free throws followed a three-point basket by the Warriors’ Purvis Short that reduced the Kings’ lead to 125-124.

The Warriors missed three-point shots by Terry Teagle and Short, who scored 34 points, in the final 10 seconds.

Kings’ guard Larry Drew triggered Sacramento’s surge in the final minutes by sinking a 15-foot jumper, making two free throws and making a steal before feeding Johnson for a layup that gave Sacramento a 117-112 lead with 2:58 left.

The Warriors closed the gap to 120-119 on a three-point play by Eric Floyd.
