SDSU Men Third in Golf Tournament

The San Diego State men’s golf team finished third Saturday in the Southern California Intercollegiate Championship at the Torrey Pines South course.

The Aztecs were 10 strokes behind USC, which won with a 36-hole total of 581. United States International University was eighth at 607. UC San Diego won the college division with a total of 613. University of San Diego was fourth, 29 strokes back of UCSD.

Pat Weishan of UCSD won the college division individual title with a four-over-par 148. Oran Brown and Jim Wahl of USIU, both at two-over-par 146, finished tied for sixth in the overall individual competition. Neil Ehlinger of Cal State Long Beach won with a 140.

The San Diego State women’s golf team is in 11th place after two rounds of the Patti Sheehan Invitational at San Jose State. The Aztecs trail first-place UCLA by 26 strokes going into today’s final round. Laurette Maritz of USIU is sixth in the individual standings with a 153, followed by teammate Tanara Rehurek with a 154.
