Share

More than 1,000 people left town on the second day of the 3,235-mile Great Peace March for nuclear disarmament after a City Hall send-off and a night at California State University, Los Angeles. The marchers set up their tents again 16 miles away at the Santa Fe Dam recreation area in Irwindale. The route will take the marchers through 15 states to Washington in the next 8 1/2 months. Pro-Peace march organizers had secured campsite insurance or waivers through tonight and continued work to obtain needed permits and coverage for the rest of the way, a spokeswoman said. But several marchers pulled out after organizers said they had not yet raised enough money to pay for full insurance and supplies.
