Keith Moreland, Chicago Cubs player representative, said he hopes to have a team meeting this week to see if there is sentiment for starting a club drug program independent of management or the Players Assn. and fashioned after a program recently approved by 36 of the 38 players on the Baltimore Orioles roster.
Moreland told the Chicago Sun Times that many players feel lost because they want to do something affirmative about a drug program but don’t know how to go about it and don’t want to anger their union.
“I think we’re going to have to take it out of the hands of the union, the players and the owners and make it a patient-client relationship,” Moreland said.
