Pilot Unhurt as Homemade Copter Crashes
CORONA —
A homemade helicopter--hovering just a few feet above the ground at Corona Municipal Airport--crashed and burned on Sunday, but the pilot was uninjured.
William Safranek, 42, of San Bernardino County was flying at an altitude of five or six feet when a spinning blade hit the ground, causing the aircraft to crash, according to Corona Police Lt. Roy VanderKallen.
Safranek jumped from the helicopter as it crashed.
