McClintock Drops Out of Race

Share

Citing financial reasons, Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) on Tuesday pulled out of the race for the 21st Congressional District.

McClintock said he was quitting before the campaign officially began, because he believed that Tony Hope, the son of entertainer Bob Hope, would win the Republican primary in June by outspending him by more than $600,000.

McClintock withdrew from the race, even though he cited a survey conducted by a Republican polling firm last month that showed the two-term assemblyman was the front-runner among GOP voters. Incumbent Bobbi Fiedler is not seeking reelection and has instead entered the race for the party’s U.S. Senate nomination.
