A pair of rare California condors spotted earlier this year in Kern County continue to elude spotters, who hope a new sighting will confirm an increase in the dwindling condor population. Observers from the National Audubon Society’s Condor Research Center in Ventura have searched for the large birds for the last two weeks in rugged terrain northeast of Bakersfield but have yet to spot them, said Jesse Grantham, an Audubon Society biologist. A trained spotter observed two of the endangered birds last Jan. 22 in that area.
