Schwartz Wins Speedway Race
Costa Mesa’s Bobby Schwartz, who has decided to remain at home this season rather than race in the British Speedway League, won the main event of the Spring Speedway Classic Friday night in front of 7,280 at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Schwartz finished the program as the high scorer with 14 points and then won the four-lap main event from the poll position. Lance King of Fountain Valley was second, Kelly Moran of Norwalk was third and defending U.S. champion Alan Christian was last.
Schwartz lost only one race and that was to veteran rider Mike Curoso. Christian, King and Moran all finished with 12 points in the regular program.
The three-race series continues Sunday at San Bernardino’s Inland Motorcycle Speedway and then concludes next Saturday in Long Beach Veteran’s Stadium.
