Azusa Pacific Women Lose in NAIA, 71-54

Beverly Greenard and Cheryl Barrineau each had 17 points in leading the Wingate College women’s basketball team to a 71-54 win over Azusa Pacific in the first round of the NAIA national tournament at Kansas City.
Azusa Pacific, the NAIA District III champion, led with 6 minutes 42 seconds remaining, 48-46, but then was outscored, 25-6. Wingate held Azusa Pacific All-American Cindy DeYoung to just two points in 14 minutes. Diane Grove got 16 points for Azusa Pacific and Denise Duncan added 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The defeat ended Azusa Pacific’s 17-game winning streak and left the team with a 30-5 final record.
