San Diego State Track Teams Win

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego State track teams scored impressive wins Saturday.
The men scored 99 points to beat Arizona (71) and Cal State Long Beach (34) in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. meet. Ed Cooper was the only Aztec to win a race, clocking 51.42 seconds in the 400-meter low hurdles.
The SDSU women’s team defeated Long Beach, 101-28, and Cal State Fullerton, 91-38. Renee Ross set a personal record (24.70), winning the 200 meters by more than a second. Ross also was on both winning relay teams.
In the men’s meet, SDSU’s Tony Burns and Vince Rivera of Long Beach were both clocked in 47.56 in the 400, but Rivera was awarded the victory after a photo of the finish was examined by officials.
Scott Hoth of San Diego State won the hammer (180-feet 9-inches) and the discus (161-9).
In the women’s meet, Jacque Norton won the discus (170-7), the javelin (148-1) and the shotput (45-4) for the 49ers. Norton’s discus mark qualified her for the NCAA meet.
