Unlike the other major cities where marathons are run, this city has no fixed rail system and it is totally dependent on surface thoroughfares for mobility. The race inconvenienced hundreds of thousands of Los Angelenos who considered it another business day.
The vehicle operators who found alternate routing irregular and slow going were the lucky ones. Other would-be drivers found themselves imprisoned in sectors of the city where the race encircled their blocks. Bus riding in these areas was virtually nonexistent too.
If there are to be future marathons in Los Angeles, it would be prudent of the planners to take th populace into consideration. Two main things could be done:
1--Take a less circuitous route.
2--Advise the public of its options weeks prior to the day of the event (any event).
At least it didn’t rain.
