A suspected traffic violator was shot and fatally wounded in an altercation with a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer. A CHP spokesman said Officer Bruce Moats was attempting to issue a traffic citation to a driver on Broadway just north of Florence Avenue in Los Angeles when the man attacked him, seized his baton, and attempted to strike him with it. Moats drew his service revolver and fired, the spokesman said. The driver, identified as Yusuf Bilal, 38, of Inglewood, died shortly after arrival at Century Community Hospital.
