Australia’s Broderick Dyke, ranked 109th in the world, stunned West Germany’s Boris Becker, 6-3, 6-3, Wednesday in the first round of the $315,000 Belgian Indoor Championships at Brussels.

Dyke needed only 80 minutes to beat the reigning Wimbledon champion.

“I was surprised by the number of errors a player like Becker could make,” Dyke said.

Becker was flabbergasted.

“I played badly, I don’t understand what happened. I had no timing and was unable to accelerate my game during the match.”

At New York, second-seeded Chris Evert Lloyd and sixth-seeded Pam Shriver took different routes but moved easily into the quarterfinals of the $500,000 Virginia Slims Championships.

Lloyd breezed to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Barbara Potter, while Shriver beat Carling Bassett of Canada, 6-3, 6-0, winning the last 12 games after falling behind 3-0 in the first set.

Earlier, Helena Sukova of Czechoslovakia outlasted Kathy Rinaldi, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, in another first-round battle.

Top-seeded Ivan Lendl defeated John Sadri, 6-4, 7-5, and second-seeded Jimmy Connors ousted Mike Leach, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, in the first round of the $315,000 Paine Webber tournament at Fort Myers, Fla.
