Two men posing as police officers robbed a Chatsworth home of $25,000 in jewels and $1,500 in cash, authorities said Friday.

The suspects knocked on the door of the house about 6:45 a.m. Thursday and told the resident, a jewelry salesman, that they were police officers with a search warrant, Sgt. Mike Krecioch said.

After entering the house, the two men handcuffed the man and apparently searched in vain for narcotics before taking the cash and jewelry, Krecioch said. One of the robbers was armed with a blue steel, .38-caliber revolver, the sergeant said.

The man’s wife and a friend staying the night were roused by the noise, then ordered to sit in the living room as the robbers spent about 45 minutes in the house, Krecioch said.
