San Diego College Baseball : San Diego State Ties Record for Errors

San Diego State committed five errors to tie a Best of the West Tournament record of 18 for the tournament as it tied Brigham Young University, 7-7, at Fresno State. The eight-inning game was stopped after a two-hour, 50-minute time limit.

Eric Woods was 2 for 4 and scored twice for SDSU (13-6-1).

Nevada Las Vegas had established the tournament record for errors with 18 in 1983.

The Aztecs play Washington State today for third place.

In nonconference action:

University of the Pacific 15, USIU 4--United States International University’s Bob Esquerra hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Gulls (7-20).

Beau Hill, who was 3 for 5 with four RBIs, hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning for UOP (12-14). Tiger pitcher Mike Pitz (4-2) went the distance and struck out nine.

University of San Francisco 6, University of San Diego 4--USF erupted for three runs in the third inning to lead early in the West Coast Athletic Conference game. USF reliever George Kanto pitched the final three innings for the win. USD fell to 0-4 in the WCAC and 13-9-2 overall.
