First baseman Monty McDermott set a national high school record with 14 RBIs, and tied the record for grand slams in a game with two, as Downey St. John Bosco beat Bosco Tech of Rosemead, 32-2, in a Del Rey league contest at Bosco Tech.

McDermott, a senior, broke the record of 12 RBIs set by Hesperia Christian’s Wayne Agens in 1981. McDermott went 4 for 4, adding a three-run homer and a two-run double, and walked twice.

McDermott’s two grand slams tied a national record held by 11 others. St. John Bosco had 10 doubles, 6 home runs, and 26 hits before the game was called after five innings by a coaches’ agreement.
