Azusa : Sale of Golf Course Studied

Share

Representatives of the Action Committee to save Azusa Greens Golf Course are planning a series of meetings with the Azusa Planning Commission to discuss the future of the golf course, whose owner last year announced plans to replace it with condominiums. The City Council has asked the two groups to study the possibility of having the city buy the golf course.

Johnny E. Johnson, owner of the golf course, canceled development plans after residents protested the loss of the city’s major recreational area. Johnson said that he might be willing to sell the golf course, “depending on the proposal.” The joint discussions of the Action Committee and Planning Commission, to begin after the April 8 municipal election, are a compromise reached by the City Council after it denied the committee’s request for a one-year moratorium on development in Azusa.
