Sen. Gore, Family Escape House Fire

ARLINGTON, Va. —
Sen. Albert Gore Jr. (D-Tenn.) and his family escaped unharmed early today after a malfunctioning furnace ignited a fire in their home, causing $50,000 damage, officials said.
Gore and his wife, Tipper, “were awakened by loud rumbling noises in the basement” shortly after midnight, officials said. They and their four children fled the home and firefighters brought the blaze under control within 10 minutes.
