Major league baseball’s rules committee has voted to amend the designated-hitter rule for the World Series, providing for use of the DH in all games played in American League parks.

The old rule--first used in the 1976 World Series--provided that the DH be employed in all World Series games in alternating years. The DH rule has been in effect in the AL since 1973 but is not used in the National League.
