A 17-year-old girl told police she escaped from a man who abducted her at knifepoint and took her from a shopping mall to his home in Claremont, where he attempted to rape her. James John Barrentine, 39, was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping, attempted rape and assault with a deadly weapon after Claremont police went to the man’s home and found a knife and other evidence linked with the crime, Sgt. Dale LeFleur said.
