Perez, Hewitt Meet to Decide State Super Welterweight Title
Tomas Perez will meet Zack Hewitt in a 12-round bout for the vacant California super welterweight title as the main event of tonight’s boxing card at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
The Cuban-born Perez, from Santa Ana, enters the match with a 14-1 record.
Hewitt, of San Francisco, is 10-3.
On the undercard, two unbeaten 130-pounders, Genaro Hernandez of Los Angeles and Larry Villarreal of Fresno will meet in a six-round bout. Also, John Smith of San Bernardino will fight Glen Kennedy of Covina in an eight-round bout at 175 pounds.
In four-round matches, Tony Paisano of Pasadena will meet Drafton Bunch of San Diego at 158 pounds, Lee Sentinella of Wesminster will meet Kenny Larson of Redlands at 162 pounds, and Nacho Guerrero of North Hollywood will meet Phil Brown of San Diego at 135 pounds.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. in the hotel’s grand ballroom. The first bout begins at 7:30.
