Coach Pat Quinn of the Kings has been selected to coach Team Canada in the World hockey tournament in Moscow next week, and he said he may take five of his players with him.

Quinn said center Marcel Dionne and right wing Dave Taylor of the Kings have already agreed to play for Team Canada. “We may have as many as five of our players on the roster,” Quinn said.

Mike Murphy, a King assistant coach, and trainers Pete Demers and Mark O’Neill will also work with Team Canada. Murphy played for Team Canada in the 1978 World tournament.

“It’s a real honor,” Quinn said after the Kings’ practice Friday. “As a player, I dreamed of having the opportunity to play in the World championships.”

The Kings, who will not make the playoffs for the third time in the last four years, will end their season tonight with a game against the Vancouver Canucks at the Forum.

Quinn said Team Canada will assemble in Toronto Sunday and fly to Stockholm for an exhibition game Wednesday. The tournament will open April 12 in the Soviet Union.

Right wing Bryan Erickson of the Kings is also being considered for a spot on Team USA.
