Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. Baseball : UNLV Completes Sweep of Fullerton, 7-4

University of Nevada Las Vegas completed a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton Sunday with a 7-4 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. baseball win at Titan Field.

The series sweep was the first against Fullerton in conference play since Cal State Los Angeles beat the Titans three times in 1977 Southern California Baseball Assn. season.

UNLV (5-1 in the PCAA, 23-11 overall) scored six of its runs--three unearned--in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead, taking advantage of three Fullerton errors and a walk. The Rebels knocked out Fullerton starter Jim Halley (5-2), who did not allow a hit in the first three innings but left after six straight Las Vegas runners reached in the fourth.

Mike Harkey, in his first relief appearance this season, allowed the last three runs in the inning. Two of Fullerton’s errors were charged to third baseman Ken Garcia, who was moved from first because of a head injury suffered Saturday by regular third baseman Pat Garman. Garman, who was hit in the temple by a drive, is expected to play Tuesday.

Mike Oglesbee had a two-run single for Las Vegas in the fourth.

Fullerton (3-3 in the PCAA, 24-13 overall) came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Shortstop Mark Razook hit his first home run for the Titans, a two-run shot.

But Scott Lewis (5-3) was able to hold the Titans scoreless the rest of the way. Lewis scattered 11 hits, striking out four.
