Maritz of USIU Wins Golf Championship

Laurette Maritz of United States International University shot an even-par 73 Monday afternoon to win the individual championship of the California Women’s Intercollegiate tournament at the Villages Country Club in San Jose.

Maritz’ 54-hole total of six-under-par gave her the individual title by three strokes over Kim Lasken of USC.

USIU, led by Maritz, a two-time All-American, finished third in the tournament behind USC and San Jose State. USC, with a total of 890, finished one shot ahead of San Jose State. USIU was nine shots back. The Gulls led USC by three strokes with nine holes to play before faltering.

Allison Shapcott and Helen Alfredson both shot eight-over-par 227 to help USIU finish third.
