USIU Hockey Team Signs Eight Recruits

SAN DIEGO--United States International University hockey coach Brad Buetow announced Thursday the signings of two Minnesota high school hockey standouts, two former minor league players and four junior transfers.

Mark Osicki from Burnsville (Minn.) High School was an all-state player last season and twice played on state championship teams. The other freshman, Shjon Podein, is an all-conference center from Rochester, Minn. Center Jim Hau and winger Joe Schwartz will join USIU next season after stints with the St. Paul Vulcans of the United States Hockey League.

Transferring to USIU as juniors will be right wing Dewey Wahlin from the University of Maine, right wing Troy Buder from Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., defenseman Jim Wilharm from Providence College and goalie Gary Shepherd from Northern Arizona.
