In an amazingly short time, Tommy Lasorda’s decision to pitch to Jack Clark has been surpassed by his decision in calling the play that resulted in Pete Guerrero’s torn-up knee. One wouldn’t expect him to know the base-running prowess of The Refrigerator Perry, but the known history of Pete’s sliding should tell you not to gamble and throw it away in a meaningless game with two out.

What this calls for is the guy to be eating his linguine in Albuquerque.
