A group headed by Drew Lewis, former U.S. transportation secretary, has agreed to buy a minority interest in the New England Patriots, including Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., and to take an option to buy full control in three years.

“By agreeing to buy the stadium and invest in the team, these men have made a clear statement that they intend to keep the team in New England,” said Billy Sullivan, the team’s president and founder.
