Garthorn, carrying high weight of 124 pounds, collared pacesetting Nordance on the turn and drew away for a 4 3/4-length victory in the $168,900 Excelsior Handicap at Aqueduct.
Nordance finished second, 7 1/2 lengths ahead of Broadway Tommy.
The victory was the second in two starts this year for Garthorn, who returned $2.60, $2.20 and $2.10.
