2 Killed, 2 Hurt in Bar Shoot-Out

Two gunmen were killed and two off-duty Los Angeles police officers wounded when a robbery attempt at a Gardena saloon turned into a shoot-out early today, police said.

The battle erupted after the two gunmen, who were not immediately identified, entered the Desert Room shortly before closing and forced the patrons, including three off-duty officers, to lie on the floor, a police spokesman said. Officer Robert Duncan was hospitalized in satisfactory condition with wounds in the left leg and right foot, and Officer William Smith was treated for a minor gunshot wound. The third officer and other bar patrons were unhurt.
