The Bureau of Indian Affairs will close its office in the Humboldt County town of Hoopa and move its operations to other Northern California locations, an agency official said. The office will close in the next few months, but offices will open in Redding and Willow Creek, said Maurice Babby, director of the bureau’s California offices. Several tribal groups support the move, but Babby said the Hoopa Valley Business Council opposes it. The council serves as governing body of the Hupa tribe.
