‘MOTHER’ DUE ON KABC-TV SATURDAY

KABC-TV Channel 7, which came under fire last month for choosing to broadcast its own “Tom Snyder” show instead of an ABC children’s drama about the problem of the homeless, will air the network program after all.

“Are You My Mother?,” an “ABC Afterschool Special,” was carried on the rest of the network March 5. ABC initially denied KABC’s request to reschedule the hourlong program in a weekend time slot, citing a policy against such moves for the “Afterschool Specials,” but subsequently gave permission for Channel 7 to show it Saturday at 12:30 p.m., KABC General Manager John Severino said Thursday.

He denied that criticism directed at the station for its decision had led to the reversal, saying that network officials simply had changed their minds.

Joanne Curley, who produced the children’s drama and had complained about its nontelecast here to Thomas Murphy, chairman of KABC’s parent company, Capital Cities/ABC Inc., said she was happy that it will finally air but resentful that KABC had not done more to promote the program, including even letting her know it would be shown.
